Five practical tips to enhance Safari browsing experience
(This article has been updated and was first published on November 18, 2019)
Safari browser is constantly improving, and Apple's default operating system browser adds new features every year. If you don't know all its features in time, you may miss some practical features. See if these advanced user tips can improve your efficiency in Safari browser.
1. Password strength check
Safari pays attention to the security of your password. It will issue a warning if you detect that you are reusing the same password, or if the password is too short or too simple.
To perform a password security audit, start the browser, open the Safari menu, and select Preferences. Switch to the Password tab to view a list of all login details Safari has saved for you. There will be a yellow exclamation mark next to the password that the program considers unsafe.

Click on any single list entry for more details. If the browser detects a reused password, you will see the various websites you logged in with that password. If applicable, you will also get a link to the relevant website so that you can change your login details immediately.
If you have trouble coming up with a unique, strong password, Safari can suggest passwords for you. Simply click on the key icon that appears next to the Password field when you register for a new service and select Suggest new password.
2. Switch between mobile devices and computers
For example, when you leave your home or lie on the couch, you may want to transfer your desktop browsing session to your iPhone or iPad. Safari can do this easily as long as you log in to the same Apple ID on all devices.
On your Mac, open the Apple menu and select System Preferences. Under General, make sure the allow relay between this Mac and your iCloud device at the bottom of the dialog window is selected. On iOS and iPadOS, go to Settings and select Universal and AirPlay with Relay to enable this feature.
When these options are enabled, any web pages that open in Safari on your Mac will also appear at the bottom of the app switcher screen for your iPad or iPhone (swipe up from the bottom of the screen or double-click the Home button to view). On the other hand, any page opened on a mobile device will appear as an icon in the Dock on your Mac.In addition, if you use iCloud on all devices, the Tab Overview screen will show all the tabs you open on various computers, tablets, and phones. For example, to find it on your iPhone, click the Tab Overview button in Safari (four squares in the upper right corner), scroll down and you will see a list of web pages that are open in Safari on your Mac.
3. Rearrange the tabs
You may have opened more tabs than you actually need, but Safari can help you sort them out in some order. Open the window menu, select by tab, and you can select from the title or the website .
The first option arranges your tabs alphabetically according to the title of the page, while the second option arranges your tabs alphabetically according to the name of the website.Sorting by website is probably the most useful of the two, especially if you open a bunch of tabs and want to put a specific type of page (like a Twitter profile or Google search results) together.
Another way to control all open tabs is to go to
View and select to show tab overview (or click the button that shows four squares on the right side of the toolbar ). There you will see all the tabs appear in thumbnails, making them easier to navigate. Click any tab to jump to that tab.
4. Customize Safari toolbar
You may keep Safari when you first bought your Mac – that’s fine – but you can significantly improve your network productivity by putting the most commonly used tools at your fingertips.Specifically, you can adjust the Safari toolbar so that the options you need most are within your reach. Right-click the empty area of ??the toolbar and select
Customize the toolbar to get started.
Then, just drag the icons to or from the toolbar and drag along the toolbar to reposition them. You can use icons to share pages, access tabs syncing to iCloud, show or hide sidebars, zoom in and out web pages, and more. The default icon set is at the bottom - drag it up to the top to restore Safari to its status when it was first installed on macOS. When the appearance of the toolbar meets your requirements, click
to complete to confirm.
5. Clean up history
You should always keep online privacy in mind, and Safari does a great job in this. For example: It will automatically delete records of websites you have visited and files you downloaded after a period of time.To take advantage of this feature, open the
Safari menu and select Preferences. If you switch to the General tab, you will see a Delete History Item menu. Entry can be cleared from the record one day, one week, two weeks, one month, or one year later—by your choice. Alternatively, you can leave them all in place and manually delete them if necessary.

There is also an option below to delete download list item, which works the same way. However, it does not delete the downloaded files, it is just a record of Safari about you downloaded these files. The options here are after one day, when exiting Safari, when downloading files, or manually. To manually clear browsing history, open the History menu in Safari and select the Clear History option. Safari records can clear past hour, past day, past few days, or all records.
