Apple has unveiled MacOS Tahoe, labeled as macOS 26, advancing 11 versions beyond the current MacOS 15. This shift aligns with Apple's new year-based versioning system introduced across iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, and other Apple operating systems.
MacOS Tahoe presents a refreshed interface with the new Liquid Glass design style—offering a shinier, more transparent aesthetic, updated icons and widgets, new color tinting choices, and several additional subtle interface enhancements. The OS also introduces a fresh default wallpaper that bears resemblance to Windows 11’s visual style.

While the visual updates will likely draw the most attention, MacOS Tahoe also brings several notable new features.
The Phone app makes its debut on Mac, allowing users to make and manage calls directly from their computer.
Spotlight receives significant improvements, including a new Actions feature that enables direct execution of tasks like sending group messages, and the ability to search content on your iPhone from your Mac.
The Shortcuts app is being enhanced with Apple Intelligence capabilities, while a new Live Translation function is coming to Mac. Additionally, Genmoji and Image Playground features are now available.
The Mac version of Messages gains updates similar to those arriving on iOS 26, such as custom backgrounds that give chat windows a look reminiscent of WhatsApp.
Other new additions to MacOS Tahoe include Clipboard History, a new Games app, the Journal app (coming separately to both Mac and iPad), and various smaller enhancements and changes.
MacOS Tahoe becomes available today as a developer beta, followed by a public beta next month, with the final release expected this fall.
