If you frequently use iMessage, then you've likely shared numerous web links in your chats — maybe an article, a video, a tweet, a song, or anything else. Locating these links later can be quite frustrating, but thankfully there's a simpler method that allows you to view all the links exchanged through Messages on your iPhone or iPad.
As you might have experienced, scrolling through countless messages to locate a specific link someone sent long ago can be time-consuming. It becomes even more difficult when you're trying to find multiple links you’ve shared. Fortunately, Apple has made it easy for users to access all links shared in a particular message thread, whether it’s with one person or within a group conversation.
Let’s explore how you can see all the links shared in a Messages chat, on both iPhone and iPad.
How to View All Links Shared in Messages on iPhone & iPad
This functionality is available on devices running iOS 13/iPadOS 13 or newer versions. The way to access it slightly changes in iOS 15 and beyond, but ultimately provides the same result. Let’s walk through this useful feature.
- Open the default Messages app on your iPhone or iPad and choose the conversation thread where you want to locate the relevant links.
- Once inside the chat, tap the contact name at the top of the screen to open the detailed menu.
- Scroll down past the contact details (or on earlier iOS versions, tap “Info” to see additional details about the contact and review all shared attachments.
- As you scroll further down, you’ll notice the Links section under Photos. Tap “See All” to display every link that has been shared so far.
- Simply tapping on a link will open it in Safari or its respective app if installed. For more options, press and hold a link.
- You’ll now get several choices to copy, share, or remove the link from your shared files.
That’s it. Now you know how to easily retrieve all the links you've sent or received during chats.
It’s not only links that are easy to track down. The Messages app also simplifies finding other types of attachments such as images, videos, and audio files. You can access them from the same menu, as there are dedicated sections for Photos and Documents.
Unfortunately, there isn't a quick way to access audio messages that were saved permanently. If you often exchange voice messages, you'll need to manually search through the conversation. Bear in mind that by default, audio messages disappear two minutes after being played unless you tap “Keep.” However, there’s an option that lets you save all incoming audio messages permanently on your iPhone.
While links cannot be stored elsewhere without copying and pasting them manually, you can save other attachments directly to your device. Photos you save will go into your Photo library, and documents will be stored in the built-in Files app.
As previously noted, on older iOS versions like iOS 13, you must tap the person's name and then select 'Info' to reveal the shared links. On iOS 15 and newer, however, you can just scroll past the contact details without needing to tap 'Info.'
Were you able to locate and view all the links shared in conversations using the Messages app on your iPhone or iPad? What do you think about how iMessage organizes your links, pictures, and other content exchanged in chats? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
