Launch WhatsApp on your iPhone (or Android)
Navigate to the ‘Settings’ section
Select “Linked Devices”
Tap into the ‘Multi-Device Beta’, then select join the beta
Return to the Linked Devices menu after joining the beta, and choose “Link a Device”
Open WhatsApp on your Mac or PC and wait at the QR code screen
Aim the WhatsApp camera device link screen at the QR code displayed on your computer to pair the devices and allow WhatsApp to log in on the computer
You can now use WhatsApp on your computer, regardless of whether your phone is online or connected
Now, even if your iPhone (or Android) is offline, you can continue using WhatsApp on your Mac (or PC).
This feature proves useful when your phone is offline or disconnected from the internet for any reason, yet you still wish to send messages via WhatsApp on your computer. Common situations include having your phone turned off, undergoing a system software update, facing cellular network issues while Wi-Fi remains functional, and more. Without enabling this linked device option, when your iPhone goes offline or loses internet connectivity, WhatsApp on your computer won't function either.
Though technically still in beta, it performs reliably well, so feel confident using it. At present, there is a limit of 4 linked devices, but this may change once the linked devices feature exits beta.
What if I’m already setup with WhatsApp on the computer?
If you've previously configured WhatsApp for use on your Mac, you'll need to re-link the WhatsApp client on your Mac to your iPhone for this to work correctly. You can do so by logging out of the WhatsApp Mac app through File menu > Log Out, and then follow the steps outlined above from the beginning.
