If you use Discord, you might have noticed that the app starts automatically when your Mac boots up. Some users may not want this behavior and would prefer to disable it.
For those unfamiliar, Discord is a widely used communication platform that supports voice calls, video chats, messaging, group conversations, communities, and more through Discord servers. While it's especially popular among gamers for streaming and chatting during gameplay, many other online groups also rely on it.
How to Prevent Discord from Launching Automatically on Mac Startup
Here’s how you can stop Discord from starting up automatically each time your Mac boots.
- Click on the ? Apple menu and select “System Preferences”
- Open “Users & Groups”
- Choose your user account from the list on the left
- Switch to the “Login Items” tab
- Locate “Discord” in the list of apps under Login Items
- Select Discord and click the [-] minus button to remove it from the list, preventing it from launching at startup
After making this change, Discord will no longer start automatically the next time you boot or restart your Mac.
If you later decide you want Discord to launch again at startup, simply drag the Discord app into the Login Items section in System Preferences.
While managing Login Items, you can also adjust other applications you do or don’t want to launch automatically at startup.
Note that this change only affects the currently selected user account. If multiple users on the Mac use Discord, you’ll need to perform this process separately for each account.
