The Best Wordle Spinoffs You Should Be Playing on Your Phone
Jun 08, 2025 am 10:48 AMThere are two types of people in this world: those who recognize Wordle grids of yellow, green, and gray/black blocks and those who do not. Regardless of which group you belong to, there’s a Wordle-inspired game that suits your taste.
The massive popularity of Wordle, the daily five-letter word guessing game, not only resulted in a corporate acquisition but also inspired numerous spin-offs of varying difficulty and entertainment value. Whether you’re into thematic variations of the word puzzle or multimedia diversions within six turns, there’s something for everyone.
Below is a list of some of the best Wordle spin-offs for you to incorporate into your daily routine. While only one of these games offers Android and iOS apps, you can easily bookmark any of the web apps on your home screen for quick access. Some might even be installable as offline games.

Antiwordle
This game could also have been named Bizarro Wordle because it’s fundamentally the reverse of the original. Instead of aiming to guess the daily word in six or fewer attempts, your objective here is to achieve the most incorrect guesses possible until you’re compelled to input the correct five-letter word.
Similar to Wordle, Antiwordle colors a block yellow when the letter is present in the word, but it uses red instead of green to signify a correctly placed letter. Its challenge lies in the fact that all subsequent guesses must include those letters and exclude the grayed-out ones.
Red tiles need to stay in the same position on future guesses, and you can use yellow-tiled letters in the same spot as many times as you wish. However, you can enable the "Hard Mode" setting, which requires placing a letter marked as yellow in different positions on future guesses.

Lewdle
Created by video game journalist and screenwriter Gary Whitta, known for his work on "Star Wars: Rebels," "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," and "The Book of Eli," Lewdle follows the same premise as Wordle but restricts its "dicktionary" to dirty words and euphemisms, sometimes offering six-letter word puzzles.
Guessing exclusively dirty words is challenging, so Lewdle provides assistance. Just the Tip reveals one letter per round if needed, Ghost Guesses allow spelling a five-letter word instead, and Sheltered Mode includes non-lewd English words alongside the lewd "dicktionary." All aids incur a penalty on your lewdness score. Additionally, you receive the word’s definition and an amusing example sentence post-game.
Lewdle began as a web app but transitioned to an Android/iOS mobile app. Following the migration, Lewdle expanded beyond the daily game to include a continuous mode.

Because this is a family site, I didn’t use my usual six-letter starter word.

Heardle
Heardle is essentially a Wordle variation of the classic "Name That Tune" concept. Tap the play button to hear a one-second clip of the song’s intro. Start typing to find the artist and title, then submit your guess. An incorrect guess or skip uncovers more of the intro, providing a longer clip for another guess.
For music enthusiasts, scoring a first-guess win can be easier (and arguably more rewarding) than Wordle. However, if you don’t keep up with current hits, you might struggle until the end.
After each game, you can listen to the song on Spotify, which acquired Heardle from its independent developer in July 2022.

Framed
Although it doesn’t use the -le suffix like the others on this list, it adheres to the general format. You start with a random frame from a movie. Begin typing to narrow the game’s library of titles down to your chosen guess. Each incorrect film guess or skip reveals another frame, gradually making it easier to identify the movie.
If you enjoy Framed, you can also try the weekly Episode for TV shows, which gives you ten guesses to identify the series from the images. The web developer behind Frames and Episode also offers Plotwords, where you guess the movie name from related words, and Numble, where you construct math equations from given numbers and operators to reach the target solution.

Worldle
If geography quizzes were your forte rather than spelling bees, Worldle is the game for you. Just avoid saying "Worldle" aloud.
Each day, Worldle presents a silhouette of a country or territory that you need to identify within six attempts. Each guess is scored with a percentage based on its proximity to the answer, and it provides directional and distance hints to help you get closer with each subsequent guess. You can adjust the settings to prefer miles over kilometers for distance measurements.
At the end of the game, you can view the country on Google Maps, learn more from Wikipedia, and proceed to the bonus round where you guess the country’s neighbors.
If Worldle feels too easy, you can increase the difficulty in the settings. One option replaces the proximity percent with a size percent, another hides the country’s image, and a third randomly rotates the country’s silhouette throughout the game. Changing these preferences applies only to your next game.

Phoodle
Phoodle is Wordle for food! The answers can include utensils, flavors, famous chefs, kitchen appliances, and other culinary and foodie-centric words — not just actual food names.
As with Wordle, you get six tries to guess the five-letter term, and the tile-coloring scheme remains the same gray/yellow/green. You can also track your historical results via a key lime pie graph and use the chef’s hat button for a fun fact about the answer.

CFBordle
Presented by Reddit’s popular r/cfb subreddit, this is Wordle for college football. Correct answers can include sports mascots, school nicknames, etc.
Similar to Wordle and its many spin-offs, you have a maximum of six tries to guess the five-letter term, and the tile-coloring scheme is the same gray/yellow/green. If the game seems too easy, try switching to Hard Mode via the birthday cake button.
Despite being a college football fan, I’m frustratingly bad at this game.

Emovi
Like Framed, Emovi is a guessing game for film buffs; it’s created by the same developer behind the geography-focused Worldle. Instead of movie frames, Emovi translates movie titles into emoji characters and challenges you to decipher them. You only get three tries to guess the correct film, but hints are available after each failed attempt or turn skip.
Emovi also lets you submit your own emoji interpretations of random movies. If you’d rather not attempt to emoji-encode one film, you can choose another random movie.
