After MacOS Sequoia, the Mac’s window tiling feature has been significantly improved, and it’s easier than ever to arrange and tilize windows on the screen.
The Window Tiling feature allows you to split a window, send a window to the left or right, display a window quarter on the screen, and more. There are a number of different ways to access the improved window tiling features on your Mac, so be familiar with them and you will soon be a master.
How to use window tiling on Mac
One of the easiest ways to use window tiling is to start with the green resize window button on your Mac window:
Hover over the green window button on the window you want to tile;
Select the tile options you want to use: left, right, top, bottom. Or, select full screen, half screen, and quarter screen;
The window will be resized immediately and moved to the target position;
Repeat this for other windows to til and arrange it according to your preferences;
You will soon arrange the windows as you wish. You can arrange multiple windows of different applications or windows of the same application together, which doesn't matter.
Another way is to hold down the OPTION/ALT keys to the left, right, upper, and lower while dragging the windows on the Mac display to automatically til them. If you don't like this feature (enabled by default), you can turn it off in Settings.
Additionally, you can access the window tiling options through the Window menu of almost any Mac application, then go to Move and Resize, and from there, select where or how you want the window to be tiled.
Customize window tiling settings and options on your Mac
You can adjust various settings to customize the window tiling to your preferences. Go to ? Apple Menu > System Settings > Desktops and Docks > to find the following window tile settings options that you can turn off or on:
- Drag the window to the edge of the screen to tile;
- Drag the window to the menu bar to fill the screen;
- Hold down the Option/ALT key to tiling while dragging the window;
- Tiled windows have margins;
If you don't want a small gap between the tiled windows, turn off the last setting. Other settings are also quite easy to understand.
Window tiling is a very useful feature that may prompt some users to update to MacOS Sequoia, so if you haven't installed Sequoia but have been hesitating, maybe this will inspire you to upgrade to MacOS 15 or later.
