Get Googly Eyes in Your Mac Menu Bar to Follow Your Cursor Around
Apr 30, 2025 am 09:42 AMNostalgic Mac users may remember an interesting application in the classic Mac OS system: it will place a pair of moving eyes in the Mac menu bar and move with your cursor. While classic Mac OS is long gone, you can still experience this fun on a modern Mac, just use an app called "Googly Eyes".
Google Eyes resides in your Mac menu bar, and its pupils will follow your cursor like an older version of the app. When clicking on the mouse/trackpad, the little eyes will blink. Will this revolutionize your computing experience? Probably not. But is it interesting? Absolutely fun! Sometimes, just being fun is enough, right? So, enjoy it, add a pair of moving eyes to your Mac menu bar, so that they follow your cursor on the screen like cat eyes chasing laser dots.
You can get the Google Eyes app for free from the developer website (scroll to the bottom of the developer homepage) or the Mac App Store. No matter which way you choose to download the app, the app is the same, but the App Store version is easier to receive updates.

You need MacOS Sequoia 15 or higher to use Google Eyes, so if you are not using a modern version of MacOS, you can only give up. Is this possible? Who knows, but maybe these interesting Google Eyes are enough to be your reason to upgrade your MacOS system and install Sequoia, which, in my opinion, is a pretty good operating system overall, better than Ventura.
If you check the App Store reviews, you'll see some comments about CPU usage, but based on my experience running Google Eyes throughout the day, its CPU usage mostly hovered around 0.6% and reached a maximum of 5%, so it hardly affects any operation. However, if you are trying to minimize rendering or compilation time, you may need to give up Google Eyes for the time being.
Thanks to LowEndMac for discovery, by the way, this is a great resource site for Mac users who want to use older Mac hardware as long as possible.
