Worldcoin, known for its efforts in creating a globally accessible digital identity system, has announced a partnership with MIMOS, Malaysia's premier research and development agency in ICT (Information and Communication Technology). This collaboration aims to introduce digital proof of humanness technology across the country.
As Malaysia's national applied research and development center, MIMOS operates under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. Since its establishment in 1985, the agency has focused on enhancing the capabilities of Malaysian engineers and supporting the growth of electronic industries.
Worldcoin, recognized for its global work in building a digital identity system that everyone can access, has been leading the way in creating technology that confirms users are real humans, not bots or AI. This is done using a mix of biometric data and blockchain technology, offering a safe and trustworthy way to verify identities.
Through its partnership with MIMOS, Worldcoin will introduce this advanced technology to Malaysia. This initiative will allow Malaysians to securely and privately prove they are human in the digital world, which is increasingly important as online activities and digital services continue to grow.
Worldcoin also noted that it will offer Malaysians the ability to verify their humanness using advanced iris scanning technology created by Tools for Humanity (TFH) for the Worldcoin project.
It added that there are plans to also produce the Orb devices together as well as connect its blockchain to Malaysia’s National Blockchain Infrastructure. “The Worldcoin Foundation will work to ensure that its technology is open source and freely available, while TFH will provide technical expertise and support for both the Orb and World App.”
So far, Worldcoin has also launched in Europe and Latin America. Now, they've reached an agreement with the Malaysian government. Around the world, 6,470,223 people have already used Worldcoin to confirm that they are real humans.
In mid-December 2023, Worldcoin launched World ID 2.0, an upgraded version that enables integration with platforms such as Shopify, Mercado Libre, Reddit, and Telegram. This integration allows users to verify their humanity without exposing personal information.
Despite facing concerns from nations such as Kenya, the UK, Germany, and France, Worldcoin has continued its expansion, evident in its collaboration with MIMOS.
