Google May Skip Android 15 for TV, Jumping Straight to Android 16

While many Android phones have updated to Android 15, the situation is different for Android TVs. It's increasingly likely Google will bypass Android 15 entirely for Google TV and Android TV devices, moving directly to Android 16.

Evidence points to this: the upcoming Google I/O developer conference schedule specifically mentions preparations for "Android 16 for TV," while there's been a complete absence of any Android TV 15 announcements. Unlike previous years where Android TV updates largely mirrored mobile releases, this pattern was disrupted with Android TV 13 (which never reached consumers) and now the apparent omission of Android TV 15. The lack of even a developer preview for Android TV 15 strongly suggests Google's focus is solely on Android 16.

This isn't entirely unexpected. Previous reports indicated Google's internal decision to forgo Android TV 15. This move could be attributed to Google's accelerated release of Android 16 this year, or a strategic shift to a bi-yearly update cycle for Android TV.
