After many votes, "Assassin's Creed: Shadow" is finally scheduled to be released on Mac and other platforms on March 20, and the iPad version will be released later.

Assassin's Creed Shadows to finally launch in March for Mac

"Assassin's Creed: Shadow" brings this iconic series to the 16th century Japanese Warring States Period. Players can control two protagonists with very different backgrounds and skills: a ninjutsu assassin and a legendary samurai.

The dual protagonist settings bring diversified game mechanisms and plots, and players can shuttle between stealth and combat missions in the meticulous game world.

The game was originally announced in May 2024 and was promoted at the Apple WWDC Conference in June of the same year. At that time, Assassin's Creed: Shadow was scheduled to be released on all support platforms (including Macs, PCs and game consoles equipped with Apple's silicon chips).

However, in September 2024, Ubisoft announced that the latest Assassin's Creed game will be postponed to February 2025. The game then underwent further delays, and the final release date was set to March 20, 2025. This information comes from the Apple developer website.

Although "Assassin's Creed" has been launched on the macOS App Store for $69.99, it is currently unavailable and the game page still shows "coming soon." Even so, once the game is online, it will be logged on to Mac, PC and various game consoles, which is rare in AAA games.

Apple and Ubisoft say the iPad version will be released later.

Most games were initially released as console or PC exclusive games, and they would not be available to the Mac platform for a long time. Ubisoft expressed a strong interest in the Mac platform, and executive producer Marc-Alexis Cote said that bringing games to the Mac platform "has always been our dream."

Ubisoft makes full use of many Apple's unique features, including Metal 3, unified memory and hardware-based ray tracing (for Macs equipped with M3 or M4 chips). The dynamic biome, lighting and weather conditions of the game create an extremely meticulous gaming environment, which will be experienced on Macs and iPads equipped with M-series Apple silicon chips.

"It's hard to describe seeing millions of lines of code running natively on a Mac," said the game's executive producer. “When you see the performance of the game, the curve of continuous improvement of Apple’s M-series chips year after year, and the picture of the game on the HDR screen, you’ll feel, ‘Is this true?’”

"Assassin's Creed: Shadow" also strives to restore the 16th-century Japan in detail, such as the precise paint color used on the wooden structure at that time. The game also focuses on immersion and is available in Japanese and English.

Cote ultimately believes that the "gaming future is bright" for the Mac platform, which suggests that we may see more Ubisoft games on Apple devices in the future. With every iteration of Mac hardware improvements, players will be able to experience more refined games, hoping to avoid similar delays in the future.
