Capcom’s latest blockbuster is quickly becoming one of its most criticized
Monster Hunter Wilds may have surpassed 10 million sales and set Steam records, but recent player feedback has driven the game into Overwhelmingly Negative territory. As of June 20, only 19 percent of recent Steam reviews are positive, with the overall score now below 60 percent.
Despite a record-breaking debut, the current player count is lower than Monster Hunter: World. Wilds reached a peak of 16,900 players in the last 24 hours, while World hit 26,000. Players aren’t just leaving—they’re actively discouraging others from buying it.
No patch, no fix, no forgiveness
What makes this downturn notable is that it wasn't triggered by a new controversy or update. These complaints still revolve around the same launch-day problems already known to the community.
Players continue to criticize the lack of content compared to World, poor optimization, and the inclusion of Denuvo DRM. Capcom has yet to provide any fixes or meaningful responses.
Even high-end systems aren’t immune. Many PC users, particularly on Linux, report severe visual bugs unless they spoof GPU information or modify the game. Some say even Reframework mods run better than the vanilla version.
"The most expensive downgrade"
User reviews complain about dumbed-down combat, an empty world, and misleading design. The so-called "open world" remains a mission-based system with frequent loading screens, and online features are either broken or unreliable for many players.
Others are upset about the $70 price point, noting that World delivers more content at less than half the cost—and often goes on sale for even less.
There's also frustration over slow exploration, missing mobility mechanics from Rise, and a plodding, restrictive story that limits freeform play.
One user labeled it “the most successful fiasco of the year.” Hard to disagree.
Final Blurb
Monster Hunter Wilds launched with a bang, but it’s crashing down fast. Performance issues, shallow content, and weak PC support are driving players away in droves.
Capcom has a long way to go if it wants to salvage this title.
