How to Change iPad Magic Keyboard Backlight Brightness from Control Center
Jun 29, 2025 am 10:14 AMThe iPad Magic Keyboard comes with backlit keys, which improve visibility in dim lighting conditions and also give the physical keyboard a stylish appearance.
With the most recent versions of iPadOS, you can conveniently adjust the keyboard's backlight brightness using Control Center. However, before doing so, you must first activate the keyboard backlighting option. Let’s walk through how this process works.
Adjusting iPad Magic Keyboard Backlight via Control Center
To use the Control Center feature for adjusting keyboard brightness, your device must be running iPadOS 15.4 or newer. This function is not activated by default, so you’ll need to add the toggle to Control Center. If you're familiar with customizing Control Center, this will be straightforward.
Launch the “Settings” app and navigate to “Control Center”
Look for “Keyboard Brightness” at the bottom part of the list and tap the green ( ) plus icon to include it in Control Center
Now access Control Center on your iPad with Magic Keyboard attached by swiping down from the top right corner, clicking the battery indicator to open Control Center, or pressing fn C, then find the glowing key control and tap it
Move the slider up or down to increase or decrease the keyboard brightness on Magic Keyboard
You'll notice the brightness level changes immediately, either brighter or darker, based on where you slide the control.
Using the Control Center toggle is more convenient and quicker than going into the Keyboard Settings on the iPad, although navigating through Settings still remains an option.
Unlike many Mac models equipped with backlit keyboards, the iPad Magic Keyboard doesn't have any physical keys to manually change the backlighting. But once enabled, the Control Center toggle proves to be quite efficient and easy to use after some practice.
