Asus echoes Microsoft, says dump Windows 10 for Windows 11 ASAP
Jun 28, 2025 am 01:05 AMThe end-of-support date for Windows 10 has long been expected, and following Microsoft’s consistent push towards Windows 11, Asus also encourages users to upgrade. The well-known hardware manufacturer recently shared a support article emphasizing the importance of upgrading to Windows 11, particularly highlighting the growing significance of Copilot PCs.
Published on May 19 and noticed by Windows Latest today, the Asus support post begins with the expected reminder about Windows 10 nearing its end of life and how moving to the latest OS can help maintain system security. After October 14, 2025, no further feature or security updates will be provided by Microsoft.
Following that, the Asus document highlights what’s next for Windows — Copilot. As usual, the tone is optimistic regarding AI’s potential in everyday tasks and how it can boost productivity. It mentions capabilities like generating images, summarizing text, searching efficiently using Recall, and other similar functions.
Asus already offers several devices equipped with NPU technology that meet the official requirements for Copilot PCs, giving users the option to upgrade if desired.
However, positioning Copilot as a central part of the operating system seems questionable. Copilot PCs represent only a small fraction of the overall Windows 11 user base, and those who use Windows 11 without Copilot aren’t necessarily at a disadvantage. A computer’s operating system should prioritize solid performance in essential functions before focusing on advanced features like AI integration.
Despite aggressive promotion, Copilot remains a niche tool. You can access Copilot through a web browser, just like any other AI assistant. The only limitation is local AI processing, which currently provides only limited functionality.
Asus offers a full lineup of Copilot PCs powered by Intel, AMD, and Snapdragon chips featuring integrated NPUs. These machines deliver decent performance and efficiency but tend to lack strong graphical capabilities and come at a higher price compared to standard Windows 11 PCs.
“If your current laptop doesn’t meet the requirements for Windows 11 or Copilot , now might be the right time to consider upgrading to a system designed for these technologies,” Asus stated in the document, encouraging users to make the switch.
Additionally, Asus claims that Windows 11 isn't simply an update but rather a “smart move” that Windows 10 users should seriously consider.
The company also claims that Windows 11 offers a more “user-friendly interface” than Windows 10, pointing out design elements such as “rounded corners.”
A pricier choice, but Windows 10 is still viable
Copilot PCs from Asus or other OEMs are significantly more expensive than entry-level or mid-range Windows 11 systems. You can comfortably run Windows 11 even on regular non-AI-enabled PCs, and many organizations will likely continue to adopt standard Windows 11 devices due to their lower deployment cost.
Windows 10 systems are far from obsolete—they perform well and, in fact, can often run Windows 11 just as smoothly as officially certified devices.
Microsoft maintains a strict $30 Extended Security Updates plan, but there are currently no plans to offer paid updates for Windows 10 users beyond two years. At present, the extended security subscription only adds one additional year of support for home users.
After October 14, 2026, consumers won’t be able to pay another $30 for continued security patches.
For regular users, the only options left will be running Windows 11 via unofficial methods or switching to Linux to extend the life of their hardware for a few more years. Choosing Linux may actually be the better path since it's unclear how much longer Microsoft will allow such workarounds to function.
