Unlocking Monorails in Death Stranding 2 will provide you with an additional method to move vehicles, cargo, and even Sam and Lou safely.
Monorails offer another safe way for Sam to travel and make deliveries in Death Stranding 2, assuming they're operational. You'll first come across a Monorail in Order 13, which is also the order that allows you to unlock Monorails elsewhere.
With that said, here's how to unlock Monorails in Death Stranding 2.
How to unlock Monorails in Death Stranding 2
To unlock Monorails in Death Stranding 2, you must complete Order 13. In this order, you are required to repair the Mine north of West Fort Knot, extract materials from it, and then transport those materials back to West Fort Knot using the Monorail in Australia.
Firstly, when you accept Order 13 at West Fort Knot, you'll be given the materials needed to repair the mine. These include Special Alloys [480], Special Alloys [240], and Resins [320].
The Mine you need to repair lies north of West Fort Knot. We've marked its location on the map below:
How you get the materials to the Mine is up to you. You can walk there while using a floating carrier to hold your supplies, or you can use a vehicle. For this delivery, we opted for the Tri-Cruiser as it made the journey quicker and the terrain wasn't much of an obstacle along our chosen route.
Once you arrive at the Mine, go inside and interact with the delivery terminal. From the menu, choose the 'Restore Mine' option (it should be the only available choice at this point).
This will bring you to another menu where you can contribute the materials necessary to repair the Mine. If you haven’t lost or used any of the starting materials provided at the beginning of the Order, you should have enough. However, if you have, here’s what you’ll need to fix the Mine:
- 320 Resins
- 720 Special Alloys
After contributing the required materials, the Mine will be restored!
Now, you must use the Mine to obtain materials for repairing the Monorail. To do so, select 'Mine' from the delivery terminal menu. You'll need to trade in 2,000 Chiral Crystals to receive 4,800 Special Alloys.
Once you’ve mined the materials, return to the delivery terminal at the Mine and select the 'Use Monorail' option. The first step now is to pick your destination—Fort Knot (and currently the only available option for this Monorail). Choose West Fort Knot from the map, and you'll be taken to the Monorail menu.
From here, select the 'Load Cargo' option to open the cargo menu. On the left side of the screen under the 'Mined Materials' section, choose the Special Alloys you just mined and press X to proceed.
You'll now see the Monorail container and its contents, which should consist of all the Special Alloys from the mine (along with anything else you wish to add). Also, check the Monorail container's capacity shown in the lower right corner of the screen—don't exceed it.
You could leave it like this, but if you arrived at the Mine using a vehicle, we highly recommend selecting the 'Load Vehicle' option from the Monorail menu and choosing the vehicle you came in. This will ensure it travels with the Monorail too.

This allows Sam to ride the Monorail to its destination, making the trip back much easier—and Lou seems to enjoy it as well!
When ready, hit 'Dispatch', and the Monorail along with its contents will be sent off to West Fort Knot.
Upon arrival, interact with the delivery terminal and complete Order 13. This action will fully restore your first Monorail and officially unlock them for future use!
