As you might expect from any video game, especially in RPGs, there is more than one type of faction fighting. Conflict is rampant in the world of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, as tribes fight back against the forces of Kamalot and Avalon, with an Act 1 quest sending the player to a more brutish tribe to hopefully gain more insight into what’s going on. Here, you will find some interesting individuals, one of whom is in need of your help as his brother has seemingly lost his mind.
Accepting the Quest
In order to get inside the Berserker village, you will need to get past the rather brutish guard, Mabyn. In order to do this, you will need to convince the hulking guard that you have a message for the leader, which is a Perception check. If you’re unsuccessful, you can convince her by other means. Regardless, you might notice two bald men to the immediate right when you enter the village. One of them happens to be Sob’derr.
Sob’derr lets you know that his brother’s mind, Gro’derr, is not right after going out hunting one day. Therrov claims there’s nothing that can be done, but you will offer your services to talk to Therrov to hopefully convince him that he needs to help and reveal what he has been hiding.
One Trippy Adventure
The reason why Therrov doesn’t help is that he doesn’t wish to intervene in the Sveinn tribe issues. Thankfully, you are not part of any tribe, and say that you can be the mediator between the two. Because of this, Therrov will give you a potion to hand to Gro’derr which will send him back into a dreamlike state alongside you.
From here, you will be a rather dreary-looking world, and climbing up the stairs, you will be confronted by a ghostly Mistling creature. Thankfully, it’s not caporal and can be struck with regular weapons, in which it should go down relatively quickly. With that said, it’s a very fast boss that can dash at you from great distances.
After taking care of the Mistling, head to the back of the newly discovered location and talk to Gro’derr, who is looking at a rather strange structure overlooking a cavern. There’s actually not much dialogue from Gro’derr, and you basically convince him very quickly to return to the land of the living.
Unfortunately for you, as simple as it is to just exit out the way you came, new enemies will spawn. There will be a handful of Wyrdspirits that will block your path from leaving, which can be a big pain considering they’re immune to physical attacks. If you don’t bring magic or magical items, you could be in a bit of a pickle.
After disposing of them (and collecting their loot as they drop Ethereal Cobweb), head through the door and talk to the newly reformed Gro’derr. This will conclude the quest in itself, with a rather strong reward of the Great Beast’s Bone, which increases your Max HP by 5%.
