Chrono Odyssey is an upcoming action-combat MMO, developed by Chrono Studio—a new team made up of veteran South Korean MMO developers. At the moment, there are six confirmed classes in Chrono Odyssey: Swordsman, Ranger, Sorcerer, Paladin, Berserker, and Assassin.
Each class has access to three different weapons, though you can only equip two at once. This creates a dual-weapon combat system that allows players to swap between weapons mid-battle, chaining together unique ability combos to defeat tough bosses and waves of enemies while exploring the game’s open world. No class is restricted by gender, so you’re free to play any class as any gender you choose.
Chrono Odyssey Combat Guide
The combat system in Chrono Odyssey leans heavily into action-based mechanics—something that feels quite similar to games like Dark Souls (though we try not to compare everything to Dark Souls, it really does apply here). With precise parries, dodges, and weapon combos, skilled players can bypass much of the traditional MMO grind.
This becomes especially apparent during the early levels, where enemies hit hard and fast—master your class and its basic abilities early on, and you’ll breeze through content far more easily than others who are still getting the hang of things. The first boss, the Thousandfold Piercer, absolutely wrecked us multiple times; but after crafting some better gear and mastering the parry mechanic, we were able to take him down.
Targeting System
Targeting systems always spark discussion, and Chrono Odyssey doesn’t use a target lock in PvP—only optionally in PvE. There is also no tab-targeting system in place.
All Six Confirmed Classes In Chrono Odyssey ### Swordsman
The Swordsman is a melee class with a skillset that blends tank-like defense with offensive capabilities. The available weapons for the Swordsman include the Greatsword, Twin Blades, and Sword and Shield.
Berserker
The Berserker thrives on Bloodlust, transforming into an unstoppable force of chains and blades. Another aggressive melee class, the Berserker uses Chain Blades, Twin Axes, and Battle Axes.
Note: If you’ve played with the Hatchet in New World, this class will feel somewhat familiar.
Ranger
The Ranger is a ranged class equipped with both Crossbow and Bow, but also capable in close-range combat with a Rapier. It remains to be seen whether a purely ranged build (Crossbow & Bow) will be viable, but given the game’s current design, there seems to be room for creative and unconventional builds.
Sorcerer
The classic mage archetype, the Sorcerer wields a Staff, Manasphere, and Grimoire. While there hasn’t been confirmation yet about the traditional healer/tank/DPS trinity found in many MMOs, it's possible healing support comes from the Sorcerer’s abilities. Given the focus on solo content, it seems the developers aim for each class to be self-sufficient in dungeons.
Paladin
Ah, the noble Paladin—often missing in modern MMOs. This classic archetype brings heavy-hitting weapons such as the Mace, Lance, and Halberd. At its core, the Paladin appears to be a support class, using Mana to cast buffs on allies.
Assassin
The Assassin is an exciting class that relies on stealth and speed, wielding a Wrist Blade, Sabre, and Musket. Mechanics like Vigor and Bloodlust require careful skill rotation to maximize DPS. It looks like one of the more complex classes to master.
Abilities And Builds
Each weapon offers eight total abilities, though only four can be active at any time. These abilities are leveled up through weapon mastery trees (similar to New World), which also unlock passives.
Cooldown management is crucial, as some abilities have long cooldown periods. That’s where the time manipulation mechanics come into play—adding the “Chrono” to Chrono Odyssey.
Stop Time In The Middle Of Combat
One of the most intriguing features in Chrono Odyssey is its unique time manipulation tool, the Chronometer. You gain access to it right from the beginning of the game, functioning similarly to an ultimate ability, though it isn't tied to any specific class.
With it, you can stop time, fast-forward, rewind, or completely warp time. Use it to halt enemies mid-attack, dodge powerful moves, or chain combos through rewinding. We haven’t had the chance to fully explore all its possibilities yet, but expect to see more details emerge in the coming months.
