Reaching the Sky Islands in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will open up a vast area for you to explore high above Hyrule, though navigating through its scattered islands can sometimes be a bit challenging.

Once Link descends back down to Hyrule’s surface, you’re free to explore all the new content at your leisure in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but sooner or later, you’ll need to return to the sky again.

To help you access the different floating sections of the sky, we’ve compiled all the known methods for how to get to the Sky Islands in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to get to the Sky Islands in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

At this time, we know of four main ways to reach the Sky Islands in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: teleporting to Shrines, using the Recall ability, gliding from Skyview Towers, and utilizing the Travel Medallion.

Teleporting

While teleporting to Shrines is the simplest method to ascend to the sky, it isn’t always reliable. There’s no guarantee that the nearby floating islands near a Shrine will lead you to your intended destination.

The sky is also far more complex to navigate than Hyrule’s surface due to its fragmented nature, so we suggest learning the other available methods to reach the Sky Islands as well.

Using Recall

This new skill is obtained in the Nachoyah Shrine, found within the Room of Awakening on the Great Sky Island early in the game.

Recall can be used on many objects throughout your adventure in Hyrule to solve puzzles, fight enemies, and even assist you in reaching the sky quickly. When you equip Recall and aim at a compatible object, you’ll see the path it will follow, allowing you to determine whether it can lift you high above Hyrule.

Be sure to stand on the object after activating Recall so you rise with it!

Using Skyview Towers

Skyview Towers serve as the new version of Sheikah Towers in Tears of the Kingdom. Activating them fills in large parts of the map when Link is launched from one. They're also an excellent way to reach specific sky regions and discover hidden Shrines and secrets located on small floating platforms.

Look for these floating platforms while falling after launching from a Skyview Tower. Glide toward one if you want to use this method to reach the sky. Just keep in mind that you'll likely need to use additional abilities to climb higher onto other platforms above.

Using the Travel Medallion

The Travel Medallion makes a return! Originally introduced in the Breath of the Wild DLC, it's now included in the base game of TOTK.

We have a full guide on how to obtain the Travel Medallion, but briefly, you must complete the "A Mystery in the Depths" quest so Robbie relocates to the lab in Hateno Village. After finishing Robbie’s Shrine Sensor and Travel Medallion quests, you can then use the Travel Medallion to mark a location for fast travel.

You can upgrade the Travel Medallion by speaking to Robbie, eventually allowing you to mark three separate fast travel points on your map.
