Add Locations to Un-Geotagged Photos Before Posting to Your Instagram Photo Map
Jun 17, 2025 pm 02:19 PMInstagram launched Photo Maps in 2012, introducing a feature that enables users to display where their photos were taken and discover locations visited by others via an interactive map.
By clicking on the location link at the top of each image, you can browse a timeline of all publicly shared photos tagged at that spot, offering a vivid and collective view through the eyes of various users who have experienced it firsthand.
A few years back, I went to London for a study abroad program and carried my camera with me to document the city, mostly intending to share those moments with friends and family once I returned home. Since I was preoccupied enjoying my time there and didn't always have internet access, I didn't upload many pictures to Instagram during my trip.
After returning home, I edited all the photos I had taken and decided to post a few on Instagram as part of "Throwback Thursday" (#tbt). However, I was disappointed to find that I couldn't tag these photos with their actual locations.
From my current location in Los Angeles, only local search results were available, which meant I couldn't accurately tag photos I took of exhibits at the Tate Modern, the Stonehenge site, or performances at the Globe Theatre.
If you've encountered this issue too, there's actually a straightforward solution to correctly geotag your old photos regardless of where they were captured or your current location.
Use Koredoko for Geotagging -----------------------------Download Koredoko by Norio Kawabata from the iOS App Store, launch the app, and locate the photo you wish to geotag. Once selected, press and hold your finger on the image, then drag it to the desired location.
I moved a photo originally taken years ago in Trafalgar Square to Westminster, London, United Kingdom, and positioned it close to Trafalgar Square. After placing the photo, tap the information icon and choose "Save with Metadata."
Uploading to Instagram
The modified photo will be saved in your Camera Roll, ready for upload to Instagram. Apply any filters needed, then proceed to "Name This Location." Instead of seeing nearby locations based on your current area, you'll now see places associated with the geotagged location.
As shown below, Trafalgar Square appeared as the second suggestion in the list of locations. If your intended location isn’t immediately visible, perform a search and you should locate it. Add your caption and publish the post to Instagram.
To confirm the photo is correctly displayed on your map, tap the blue linked location above your post. My photo was successfully tagged in London even though I'm currently posting from Santa Monica, California.
Additionally, visit your profile, navigate to the Photo Map section, and verify if your image appears in the correct spot.
Use this method to properly tag all your past photographs so your Photo Maps appear more accurate and complete. Share your experience using Koredoko for iOS in the comments below.

If you need to send a group message, you can create a new multi-person conversation in the information application; 4. Migrating contacts can be accomplished in three ways when replacing a new iPhone: First, using iCloud synchronization is the most worry-free, ensuring that the old phone has turned on the iCloud address book backup, and the new phone logs into the same account and enables synchronization; Second, using AirDrop is suitable for a small number of contacts to transmit. After setting up AirDrop visibility on both phones, sending and receiving them through the share button; Third, with the help of computer relay, both Mac or Windows, synchronizing contacts through Finder or iTunes and replacing or merging data. Select the method that suits you and pay attention to your account and permission settings to easily complete the migration.
