I have a variety of Apple devices that are full of impressive features. Many features leverage Apple’s closed ecosystem to provide users with a seamless experience across devices. For example, AirDrop and Universal Clipboard work like magic. However, there is one feature that is more important to me than all the others. It may not be the most eye-catching Apple feature, but it is definitely the most practical.
My iPhone will never be lost for too long
We've all experienced this. You are too late and are in a hurry to go out, but when you are about to rush out of the house, you suddenly find that your phone is missing. You spent the next ten minutes searching around the house and found that your phone was always in your pocket.
This used to be my daily life. However, since I had the Apple Watch, everything has changed. The Apple Watch monitors my heartbeat and pays for my groceries, but there is one feature that outweighs all the others.
When I lost my phone, I pressed the side button and tapped the iPhone icon. My iPhone immediately started making sounds and I could find its location based on the sound. If it gets dark, I can even hold down the iPhone icon to make my iPhone flash and make sounds at the same time. Within seconds, I can find my phone and continue my life.
I can't count the number of times I've used this feature, and I usually find my iPhone right under my nose. It's a simple trick, but it saves my sanity every day.
If I lose my Apple Watch, I can find it too
This feature is not limited to my iPhone. Losing the Apple Watch is harder for me because it is worn on my wrist most of the time. However, sometimes I will take it off to charge or take a shower and it will disappear.
Since the release of the first generation of Apple Watch, you can use Apple Watch to ping your iPhone, but for a long time, this feature cannot be used the other way around. If you lose your Apple Watch, you can't make your Apple Watch sound by pressing a button on your iPhone.
Fortunately, iOS 17 introduced this feature, and now my iPhone control panel has a dedicated button that I can click on to quickly find my Apple Watch.
AirPods are easily lost, but they are also easy to find
My AirPods are more likely to be lost than my iPhone and Apple Watch. They are too small, and once you put it down inadvertently, the chance of finding them without help is very small.
While it's not that easy to activate this feature, I can still make them sound when I lose AirPods. I need to open the Find app on my iPhone, select my AirPods, and then click the Play Sound button. My AirPods will start making sounds so I can track them.
I can also use the precision positioning feature to guide me to the exact location of the AirPods if I can't hear them pinging. Once I moved to their position, I could make them sound again and start looking for the side of the sofa cushion where the sound came from.
If my AirPods are not in the box, it is easy to lose the charging case. The good news is that there is an ultra-wideband chip in the charging case, so the precise positioning function is also suitable for the charging case. There is also a speaker in the charging case, so when I lose it I can make it sound.

AirTags makes finding keys simple ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Apple makes it easy for me to find my Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods, but there are a lot of other things I often lose. In the past, I often lost my keys, usually in a hurry to go out.
Now this is no longer a problem, as I added an AirTag to the key with a cheap keychain. Just like my AirPods, I can make the AirTag sound from the Find app. I can also find the exact location of the AirTag using the precision positioning feature, if I can't hear it beeping.

AirTags is the best Bluetooth tracker on iPhone, allowing you to easily access your items and track them over Apple's global search network.

All of these tips require me to have an iPhone or Apple Watch to use them. If the worst happens, I lose both the iPhone and Apple Watch, and that's not a problem either.
I have a HomePod mini and when I lose my device I just need to ask Siri for help. I could say “Hey Siri, ping my phone”, or “Hey Siri, ping my watch” and after a second or two the device would start making a sound. Sometimes it doesn't work for my Apple Watch, but in this kind of case I ask Siri to help me find my iPhone and then use it to find my watch.
Even if you don't have HomePod, if you have browser access, you can log in to iCloud.com and use the Find app to make any device sound. You can also use Siri on your iPhone or Apple Watch to find your device through your voice.

I sometimes use these features multiple times a day ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Just like I can't understand how I found anywhere before an app like Google Maps came up, I don't know how I survived before I discovered how to ping my iPhone with Apple Watch. There are some dark days where I have to use this feature multiple times because I always put my phone in a stupid place and then lose it.
My iPhone can tell me when I use a specific app, and the screen time data I'm currently obsessed with Slay the Spire is not good looking. It would be great to know how much time I have saved since I stopped losing my phone and keys. I'm pretty sure I've saved myself a few days of stress.

---Apple is known for creating “just work” features, although that reputation has been swayed recently due to the poor launch of Apple Intelligence. However, this is a really effective feature.
It may not be Apple's most dazzling or technically impressive feature to date. But it's probably one of the most useful features for me. Now, where is my phone?
