Galaxy S25's Now Bar: Improved dynamic information display, but still needs to be improved
Samsung's new One UI 7 update based on Android 15 brings a lot of features, and one of my favorites (although slightly rough) is the "Now Bar" on the Galaxy S25. This week, Samsung unveiled a much-needed update that improved the Now Bar's capabilities, which could be a warm-up ahead of the full release of One UI 7 next month.
What is the Now Bar on Galaxy Phone?
Unless you have a Galaxy S25 or are running a new One UI 7 beta, you may not know much about the Now Bar. It's similar to Apple's Dynamic Island, which can quickly display various useful information on Galaxy phones.
Now Bar can display real-time notifications, music, maps, remote controls and sports events information at the bottom of the lock screen and at the notification bar. You can learn more in our Galaxy S25 Ultra review. It will automatically update based on available information and is great when it works well. Once One UI 7 is updated to more phones, more users will be able to use it.

It's like a dynamic island, but better.
However, it is obvious that Samsung hastily launched the feature. You can't customize anything, and most users don't even know how to add sports events to your cards. Thankfully, this week’s new update adds more information, setup guides and more.
Samsung Now Bar Update
This week, Samsung updated its "screen-off display" app that controls the new Now Bar. The update log mentions "Google Sports Settings Guide" and "Improved Google Sports-related GUI". Samsung changed the UI slightly and I noticed that on my Galaxy S25 screen, the Sports scores looked a little better. This change appears with the v8.8.25.5 update of Samsung's "Screen Display" app.
However, the bigger change is that the Now Bar sports setup is easier to understand. Before the update, the only way to display sports scores on your phone is that you have followed the sports event or team you are interested in on your Google account. If not, Now Bar will not display anything. Now, when you click on the "Sports from Google" feature in the Now Bar settings, you will see more information, as follows:
"To view sports information from Google in the Now Bar, you need to go to the sports settings from Google and follow the team or league." Then there are two links that provide more information on how to set it up, and a button that jumps directly to the "Sports" option in the Google settings menu. Additionally, you can go to Google Discover, scroll right to the top until you see "Your Sports Team and League" and then follow the team you are interested in.
Once this is done, Samsung's One UI 7 update and Now Bar will pull that information from Google and display a sports reminder on the screen. Before the game begins, you will see a small pop-up window in the lock screen and notification bar, and you will receive real-time updates during the game, as well as lasting notifications showing scores and information.
Unfortunately, I still have a complaint. If you accidentally slip the Now Bar sports card, it disappears—and you can't get it back. I've tried deleting and re-adding the team to my list without success. Instead, it will only reappear the next time the team you are following. Obviously, Samsung still needs to do some work.
Anyway, this is a small but very useful change to how the Now Bar works in One UI 7. I also think this will not be the last update, and Samsung may continue to improve the experience when it releases the Samsung Galaxy One UI (Android 15) update for more phones in April.
