Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's side mission "Ars Dimicatoria" guide
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has many interesting side quests, but triggering some tasks requires meeting specific conditions and completing some steps. One of the tasks is “Ars Dimicatoria”, which you can trigger by talking to Master Menhard.
However, this quest won't appear on your map from the beginning. You need to talk to the tavern owner in Kutenberg City and ask what's new. After that, a new side quest icon will appear on your map. Here is a guide on how to easily accomplish this task.
How to start the "Ars Dimicatoria" mission
You can start “Ars Dimicatoria” by talking to the tavern owner in the northwest tavern in Kutenberg City. After asking him what's new, he'll tell you about Master Menhard. To the east, a new mission icon will appear, so go there and talk to Menhard.
Accept his duel and defeat him. After you hit him a few times, or a few times by him, some people will interfere with your duel, causing the duel to stop. After that, you will need to make a skill judgment to calm the situation. But even if you fail, don't worry, the task will go as usual.
Even if Menhard is expelled from town, the mission will not be affected in any way, so continue talking to him.
How to steal the sword of the Kutenberg Brotherhood
After talking to Menhard, he will ask you to steal the sword from the Kutenberg Brotherhood. This is the most difficult part of the mission, as both doors leading to the sword have high or extremely difficult unlocking levels.
If you want to steal a sword at night, drink a bottle of powerful dexterity potion. It will make unlocking easier, even for extremely difficult locks. You can buy this potion from a pharmacist in Kutenberg City.
However, there is another way to get in. Forget the main door, it is extremely difficult to unlock; on the contrary, enter through the back door. Although the back door is usually difficult to unlock, at noon, it is not locked.
So, enter through the back door and go up to the second floor. Take a turn and open the door to your right. The sword was on the wall at the east end of the table, so it was stolen. Once done, place your sword in interaction with the wall according to the coordinates on the map.
If you are found in the area or caught stealing a sword, the other party will know about it and your team will be at a great disadvantage in the duel. If you are found/catched, you and your allies will not be able to wear any armor in the duel, which makes the battle very dangerous.
Now, report to Menhard; after that, you will travel quickly to Town Hall with him. Agree to help him in the duel and become a member of the Swordsman Brotherhood. To do this, you need to beat Menhard (if you haven't beat him before) and then take the oath.
Once you're done, skip 24 hours and tell him you're ready for a duel. If he still lets you wait, skip another 24 hours and talk to him again.
We tried not to be found while stealing the sword, but the other party still accused Henry of stealing. Maybe stealing a sword while everyone is asleep at night can avoid this.
How to win the duel
After the cutscene is over, the duel will begin. Menhard will take the move first, so wait for your turn. When it's your turn, go to the yellow corner. Draw your sword from the beginning and start fighting. Your first two opponents, Linhart and Emmeram, are no problem at all.
Since Menhard is a master of swordsmanship, you can learn a lot from him.
They are all weak, so solve them quickly. If you have a hard time dealing with them, focus on blocking and using combos. Also, use Master Strike to cause serious damage.
The opponent you should pay attention to is Master Nicolas. He is a skilled warrior, but not as terrible as the hungry Henry. Make sure not to attack him from the opposite side of his sword, as he can also use Master Strikes. He can also use quick counterattacks, so you need to be more careful.

Your strategy should be blocking and countering most of the time, but if you are confident in the timing of the Master’s strike, use it. After defeating him, wait a few days, specifically three days. You can do other tasks or skip time. Then, talk to Menhard and the mission is completed. He will reward you with his long sword and the permanent bed in the sword hall. After completing “Ars Dimicatoria”, you can start the “Kutenberg Championship” mission immediately.
