Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra: A surprisingly repairable phone. While largely unremarkable, this flagship offers a welcome surprise: significantly improved battery replacement.
Most phone batteries are stubbornly affixed with pull tabs or glue, making replacement risky and difficult, especially with swollen batteries. The S25 Ultra, however, changes this.

Innovation in smartphones has slowed recently. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, however, is a refreshing exception. An iFixit teardown shows the battery is secured with easy-to-remove tape within a plastic casing, a vast improvement over previous models and even the iPhone 16's electrically-released battery. No special tools are needed.
Despite this improvement, complete repair remains challenging. The rear panel is still glued, and accessing the battery requires navigating internal components – a delicate process. The display adhesive remains stubbornly strong, making screen replacement difficult.
iFixit awarded a provisional 5/10 repairability score – the highest for a recent Galaxy flagship. A 6/10 is achievable with simpler repair-friendly design choices. Whether Samsung will implement these changes remains to be seen.
