ESR released a low-priced alternative to Apple Pencil, the Geo Digital Pencil, which is much lower than Apple's entry-level stylus, but has the "find" feature and other additional advantages.
This new ESR Geo digital pen is made of aluminum and has anti-palm contact function. The device can be paired wirelessly with your iPad and used in all apps that support stylus input. Its 1.5mm slim nib allows you to write, sketch, draw and annotate accurately. Like the Apple stylus, you can tilt the nib to create natural strokes that are directional. A shortcut button at the bottom can trigger various customizable actions by clicking or double-clicking, such as returning to the main interface.
However, this new ESR stylus lacks some of the advanced features of the Apple Pencil, such as hover and pressure sensing, and cannot easily change the line thickness like a real pencil.
The built-in magnet allows you to suck your stylus on your iPad like you would with the Apple Pencil. This accessory is charged via USB-C cable, not wirelessly—the magnetic connection is only used for storage. Additionally, it reports current battery power via Bluetooth, so you can use Apple's battery widget to track the remaining battery in real time.
Like the Apple Pencil Pro, ESR's stylus also have a "find" feature. You can add Geo Digital Pencil to the Items tab of the Find app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, track its location on the map, or mark it as lost when you lose it. With built-in speakers, you can play sound to find lost ESR stylus nearby. Otherwise, you will see its last known location in Find.
This works the same way other accessories that support "find". The stylus regularly broadcasts its presence to nearby iOS devices that pick up their Bluetooth signals and report their location to the crowdsourcing “find” network in an anonymous and secure manner. This is a very useful feature, especially if you lose your stylus frequently.
The biggest advantage of Geo Digital Pencil is its low price; it only costs $30, which is much lower than Apple's products. In contrast, Apple offers two models. One is the regular Apple Pencil with a USB-C port, which costs $79; the other is the flagship Apple Pencil Pro, which costs $129.
This device is compatible with all 11-inch iPad Pro models, 12.9-inch iPad Pro for the third generation and later, 3rd generation and later iPad Air, iPad mini 5 and later, and iPad 6 and later Higher version. You can buy Geo Digital Pencil for $30 on Amazon. The stylus supports two-day delivery and comes with a USB-C charging cable and replacement pen tip.
ESR has released some very interesting products at CES 2025, including an iPhone 16 protective case that works with the camera-controlled shooting buttons. We've reviewed several ESR accessories, including its ultra-durable iPad case, iPhone case, a wallet that supports "find" functionality, and its 100W 6-in-1 charging station, to name just a few.
