Hello friends, how are you?
Today I'm here to talk about the procedure for installing Symfony on a Hostinger shared server. Along the way, I had several doubts about how to install the project. One of them was with the .htaccess file, PHP version, domain, and I was even unsure whether my shared server plan was sufficient or whether I would need to migrate to a VPS. Among my questions, I asked one about the server's folder structure, whether it should follow some logic for it to work. The employee who helped me told me it wasn't necessary.
However, I continued my investigation. The first thing I did was analyze how Hostinger's automatic installer worked, especially for Symfony. I installed Symfony with the auto installer, but a 500 error occurred on the page where the project is redirected. Well, I installed the dependencies, and the errors persisted. I decided to delete the entire project, but I realized that the web folder had "something special". After all, the website, when created, was redirected to her. With this in mind, I created a new installation of Symfony version 7.2 using the composer2 command within this folder and, when accessing the domain with the path /web/public, I was able to see the website in operation.
Installation Step by Step
1 - Access your account and go to "add website". After that, create an empty PHP website, add your domain or use a temporary one.
2 - Click "auto installer", then "other" and select Symfony.
3 - Configure the site administrator data and check if your settings are the same as mine.
4 - In the PHP information section, make sure you have these extensions and that version 8.3 is selected.
5 - Access your website URL and see this screen:
6 - Then, SSH access your server (you will need to configure it) and use the following commands:
cd domains cd nome_do_website rm -rf public_html/ mkdir public_html cd public_html mkdir web cd web composer2 create-project symfony/skeleton:"7.2.x-dev" .
7 - Access your website's URL with the path /web/public and see your Symfony web app working!
Final Considerations
- Clone your repository and use Git to manage updates.
- Use a cron job with a Bash script to keep your site up to date.
- It is important to note that Hostinger uses the composer2 command for the latest Composer (version 2). If you only use composer, it will use version 1.
I hope this article helps everyone who has difficulties installing a project on Hostinger using Symfony. I wrote this article with the aim of helping the community and avoiding problems like the ones that happened to me. If you liked it, leave a like and comment if it worked. Thank you!

The key to writing clean and easy-to-maintain PHP code lies in clear naming, following standards, reasonable structure, making good use of comments and testability. 1. Use clear variables, functions and class names, such as $userData and calculateTotalPrice(); 2. Follow the PSR-12 standard unified code style; 3. Split the code structure according to responsibilities, and organize it using MVC or Laravel-style catalogs; 4. Avoid noodles-style code and split the logic into small functions with a single responsibility; 5. Add comments at key points and write interface documents to clarify parameters, return values ??and exceptions; 6. Improve testability, adopt dependency injection, reduce global state and static methods. These practices improve code quality, collaboration efficiency and post-maintenance ease.

Upgrading the PHP version is actually not difficult, but the key lies in the operation steps and precautions. The following are the specific methods: 1. Confirm the current PHP version and running environment, use the command line or phpinfo.php file to view; 2. Select the suitable new version and install it. It is recommended to install it with 8.2 or 8.1. Linux users use package manager, and macOS users use Homebrew; 3. Migrate configuration files and extensions, update php.ini and install necessary extensions; 4. Test whether the website is running normally, check the error log to ensure that there is no compatibility problem. Follow these steps and you can successfully complete the upgrade in most situations.

PHP page caching improves website performance by reducing server load and speeding up page loading. 1. Basic file cache avoids repeated generation of dynamic content by generating static HTML files and providing services during the validity period; 2. Enable OPcache to compile PHP scripts into bytecode and store them in memory, improving execution efficiency; 3. For dynamic pages with parameters, they should be cached separately according to URL parameters, and avoid cached user-specific content; 4. Lightweight cache libraries such as PHPFastCache can be used to simplify development and support multiple storage drivers. Combining these methods can effectively optimize the caching strategy of PHP projects.
