Custom Error Handling: Tame Parse and Fatal Errors
Traditionally, handling parse and fatal errors in PHP using a custom error handler is considered impossible. However, by leveraging the power of shutdown functions, we can circumvent this limitation.
Custom Error Handler
For all errors except parse and fatal errors, you can define a custom error handler using the set_error_handler() function. This handler takes several arguments, including the error level, error message, and details about the error. By customizing this handler, you can control how errors are logged or displayed.
Shutdown Function to the Rescue
For parse and fatal errors, the custom error handler will not be called. Instead, we resort to register_shutdown_function(). This function allows us to define a callback that's executed when the PHP script finishes execution. In this callback, we can intercept and handle any fatal errors that occurred.
