Slitterhead has many unique aspects, such as how it handles its mission structures and unlockable characters that can drastically change up the combat and allow you to find a gameplay style that matches your wants and needs. This carries through the entirety of the game, even becoming present in the overall activities you carry out in a mission.
Mantis Trap is a perfect example of this, as it is only a boss fight, having you take Michelle down once and for all. There's not chasing her through the streets, sneaking through highly guarded areas, or fighting waves of other Slitterheads. It's just a boss encounter between your chosen Rarities and her, and it's epic!
Mantis Trap Walkthrough In Slitterhead
Seeing as this mission is just a massive boss fight against Michelle, we strongly urge you to select Edo and Julee as your Rarities, as they can deal substantial amounts of damage in short bursts. Not only that, but they both have excellent Skills and really solid Heavy Attacks that will give them an advantage throughout the encounter.
Edo's Burning Edge alone makes him a must for this encounter, as it will ratchet up his damage output, which also applies to his Companion, as this Skill will become usable for the other Rarity as long as he's on the team. Pairing this Skill with Julee is also a recipe for massive damage, so these two are the clear choice here!
Michelle - Devil's Flower Mantis Slitterhead: Phase One Guide
The first phase of this encounter isn't too challenging, as it's what you'd expect from a Mantis Slitterhead, allowing you to sort of run your offense as normal against it for now. Utilize Edo's Burning Edge to increase your damage output and use his Angel Step to carve large chunks of her health away.
Parrying is massive here, as well as Guarding in general. If things get hairy, switch to Julee and use her Revive All Skill, or activate Burning Edge on her to have her deal even more damage with her basic and heavy attacks. Her Sonic Claws Skill will also deal tremendous amounts of damage and can lead to her staggering the Slitterhead with ease.
Repeat this general strategy until you get its health down toward the last segment on its health bar to have Michelle transform the arena, limiting your mobility and making things slightly more challenging than average.
Michelle - Devil's Flower Mantis Slitterhead: Phase 1.5 Guide
After whittling Michelle's health down nearly the entire way, she will close off parts of the arena, leaving only a narrow strip left, limiting where you can go. Fortunately, her attacks won't change much here, allowing you to continue doing what you were previously.
We recommend using Julee for this section, activating Burning Edge instantly, and beginning your offensive onslaught. Use Sonic Claws when you get close to potentially stagger Michelle, and keep slicing away until she's defeated. She only has one bar of health left, so it won't take too much to deplete the remainder of the health, triggering the second phase.
Michelle - Devil's Flower Mantis Slitterhead: Phase Two Guide
Now is where things get real, as the second phase of this encounter is substantially more challenging than the others, having Michelle regenerate all of her health while also gaining several new abilities that can deal severe damage to you if you aren't paying attention.
While your goal and strategy are ultimately the same here, you must be on high alert, as Michelle's new actions can destroy you. Overall, you're still going to attempt to get close to her, activate Burning Edge, and unleash your offense in hopes of staggering her for even more damage.
Regarding Michelle's new abilities, she will periodically teleport away and fire a single laser, forcing you to dodge through it or run in the opposite direction to avoid it. She will also generate a large orb of Blood, causing it to burst and deal tremendous damage. When you see her start doing this, run away from her instantly.
Additionally, when almost defeated, Michelle will launch a Purple Orb at you that will instantly kill you on contact, so evade away from it when it approaches. She will also begin firing three lasers, so move between them to avoid taking damage. Other than that, everything is more or less the same.
Get close to her, activate and unleash your offense, and be prepared to use Revive All if things begin going south. If you have Revive All activated, rush Michelle and use Sonic Claws for massive damage. Once you get the rhythm of the encounter down, she will be taken care of in no time!
Mantis Trap Rewards
Defeating Michelle will grant you 20 Skill Tokens, allowing you to toss them into any Rarity you so wish. But please keep in mind that they are shared Tokens, meaning once you use them, they are gone and are not available for every single Rarity.
Lastly, as always, listen to all the new 'Talk' options that become available upon completing this mission, as it will lead to more Missions. Do this as soon as you clear Mantis Trap!
