You can now mirror Android's screen to Windows 11 from the Start menu

One of the standout features in Windows 11 is its enhanced integration with both Android and iPhone devices. While iPhone connectivity comes with certain restrictions—like the inability to mirror your screen—Android support offers a more complete experience. Recently, Microsoft introduced a new way to share your Android phone's screen directly from the Start menu, which previously was only possible through the Phone Link app.

If you're not familiar, the Windows 11 May 2025 Update security patch brought a new Phone Link panel integrated into the Start menu. This panel appears on the right side of the Start menu and gives you quick access to recent notifications, messages, and file transfers between your PC and mobile device.

As first reported by Windows Latest, a recent update now allows Windows Insiders to tap their connected device’s name within the Start menu’s Phone Link panel to begin mirroring their Android phone screen. However, this functionality works only if your Android device is already linked via the Phone Link app.

As shown in the image below, selecting your phone's icon instantly projects your Android screen onto your desktop.

Though the feature still uses the Phone Link app behind the scenes, there’s no need to open it manually anymore. The entire process can be initiated straight from the Start menu.

I tested this screen-sharing function using several Samsung models including the S23 and S22 Ultra, and the performance was excellent thanks to Samsung’s OneUI. For example, when connected to a PC, OneUI detects that a physical keyboard is available and automatically hides the on-screen keyboard, giving you more space to view your phone screen.

Tapping the floating three-line menu brings up options like “Show Clipboard” and “Show Translate.” As seen below, each action displays an associated keyboard shortcut, enabling smooth navigation using your Windows 11 keyboard while interacting with your Android device.

This screen mirroring feature via the Start menu is currently being rolled out to members of the Windows Insider Program, but it will also become available to general users during the final week of May or early June. According to Microsoft, the screen mirroring capability is supported only on the following devices:

  • Microsoft Surface Duo series
  • Samsung Galaxy series (Z Fold, Z Flip, Fold, Tab S, S, A, F, M, Note, XCover)
  • HONOR Magic series
  • OnePlus series
  • OPPO Find series
  • OPPO Reno series
  • Realme series
  • ROG Phone series
  • vivo X Fold series
  • vivo X series
  • vivo V series
  • vivo T series
  • iQOO Digital series
  • iQOO Z series
  • Xiaomi 14T series

In addition to screen mirroring, I found the “Send files” option located at the bottom of the Phone companion panel to be quite useful.

Simply click the “Send files” button in the Start menu to bring up the transfer interface, navigate through File Explorer, and send any file directly to your phone via Phone Link.

We were even able to transfer .dll files successfully from the desktop to our mobile device, though transferring folders isn't supported yet.

While the Phone Link panel is still being rolled out gradually, if you don’t see it, make sure the toggle labeled “Show mobile device in Start” is enabled under Personalization > Start.
