Extending Monorails in Death Stranding 2 will create another way for Sam to transport a lot of cargo, materials, and even vehicles with ease.
Also, Monorails are a handy way of transporting Sam and Lou from one place to another quite quickly in Death Stranding 2 if you don't fancy or can't use Fast Travel. Lou seems to enjoy this form of transport too!
On that note, here's how to extend Monorails in Death Stranding 2.
Hey, need more help? Check out our Death Stranding 2 walkthrough.
How to extend Monorails in Death Stranding 2
To extend Monorails in Death Stranding 2 you need to find Tracklayers and contribute the required materials to fix that section of track and repeat until you reach the next Monorail stop. However, before you can do this you need to unlock Monorails during Order 13.
This is what a Tracklayer looks like:
A Tracklayer is a part of the Monorail track with a terminal on it. When you discover a Tracklayer, you'll see this icon on your map:
Also, look around your environment, if there's one Tracklayer you should see another and then another in the distance, all creating a path that will eventually reach the next Monorail station.
All Tracklayers will require Chiral Crystals, Resins, and Special Alloys to be restored. The quantities can vary, and sometimes you'll find Tracklayers that need a lot of them then find some that need only a few pieces of each.
Now, to repair a piece of Monorail track you need to interact with the Tracklayer and select the 'Restore Track' option. This will bring up another menu where you can see the amount of materials needed in the bottom right corner of your screen.
If you've got some (or all) of the required materials then you can contribute them by selecting them from the list on the left side of the screen.
You can also see the amount of materials needed to restore a Tracklayer when you walk up to it. It's less detailed than the terminal menu, but it's handy if you're just driving past and wondering what else is needed.
We highly recommend using vehicles to transport the materials to the Tracklayers. Be careful if you're going outside of the Chiral Network, because you can't build a Generator to recharge your vehicle if it runs out of charge with all of your materials on it.
We also found it useful to keep all of our materials on the Magellan in the Private Locker and then transport them to the Tracklayer when the distance was not too great. If the Magellan was further away than another delivery terminal where we could stash materials, we took them there instead.
When you've donated enough of the required materials, the Tracklayer will automatically restore itself and you'll see another portion of track added to the Monorail line. Also, once restored, you can use the Monorail track as a zipline by approaching a Tracklayer pressing square (you don't need to connect two Monorail stops for this).
However, you must remember that to completely extend the Monorail you need to restore all the Tracklayers between one stop and the next. For example, if you want to extend the Monorail from the Mine North of F1 to the next stop (NW03/F2 South Distribution Centre) then you need to repair all four Tracklayers between them.
Once you've repaired all Tracklayers between two stops, you will have fully repaired the track and connected up the Monorail. You'll then be able to ride the Monorail between the stops, just like you did in Order 13.
That's all for now! If you're looking for more Death Stranding 2 help, check out our pages showing you how to get to The Inventor, and how to secure cargo.
