The Mucktorok in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the final segment of the Water Temple and the Sidon of the Zora quest. This small but troublesome enemy has been behind all the sludge you've encountered so far, and now it's time for revenge.

Before entering this Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom boss fight, we suggest gathering plenty of arrows, Hasty Elixirs, heart-enhancing meals, stamina-enhancing meals, and weapons with an attack power higher than 15. If you find this boss too difficult on your first attempt, consider visiting Shrines to collect Lights of Blessing that can be exchanged for heart and stamina upgrades — this helped us significantly.

How to defeat Mucktorok Boss in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

The battle with the Mucktorok consists of two phases, and the first phase becomes much easier if you’ve taken a Hasty Elixir to increase your movement speed.

In the initial phase, the Mucktorok will summon a sludge shark to shield itself and strike at you. To defeat the Mucktorok, use Sidon’s ranged attack to eliminate the shark and wash away the sludge covering the Mucktorok, then strike when the Mucktorok is exposed.

Sidon’s ranged attack deals significant damage once the sludge shark has been cleared away.

Here’s a breakdown of the Mucktorok’s attacks during the first phase and how to avoid them:

• Charge Attack - The sludge shark halts, opens its mouth while facing you, and charges forward. You can either attack it mid-charge or dodge sideways to evade.
• Sludge Pipe - The shark rises from the ground and sprays a stream of sludge across the area. Jump over the stream to dodge. This slower move gives you a good chance to counterattack.
• Mud Slam - The shark slams down, sending a shockwave outward. Easily dodge by jumping over it.
• Stalking - The shark circles around the edge of the arena while moving beneath the floor. During this time, you can safely target it with Sidon’s ranged attack to expose the Mucktorok inside.

Once the sludge shark is removed, the Mucktorok becomes vulnerable briefly. Now is the time to unleash heavy attacks — but try not to use your arrows yet, if possible.

Using melee weapons with higher damage stats speeds up the fight. Here are some of the weapons we used against the Mucktorok and what they were crafted from:

• Lizal Tail Whip - Royal Claymore Lizalfos Tail
• Captain I Blade - Strong Zonaite Longsword Captain Construct I Horn
• Blue Lizal Spear - Strong Zonaite Spear Blue Lizalfos Horn
• Construct Bow - Found inside a Shrine.
• Zora Shield - Acquired earlier in the Sidon of the Zora quest.

Repeat this strategy — dodging attacks, clearing the sludge, and attacking the Mucktorok — until half its health bar is gone. At this point, the second phase begins.

Mucktorok Boss fight - Phase Two

We recommend taking another Hasty Elixir or speed-enhancing meal at the start of this phase, and replenishing as needed since increased speed remains valuable.

Now angered, the Mucktorok spreads sticky sludge pools across the battlefield. This phase requires balancing between clearing these pools and targeting the shark.

Yes, the Mucktorok sludge shark returns! This time, it gains a new attack where it rears up and releases sludge that rains down like sticky droplets. These hurt if they hit Link directly, so keep moving during this attack.

The shark also repeats all of its previous moves from phase one, so stay alert!

As before, use Sidon’s attack to remove the sludge from the shark and expose the Mucktorok inside. However, this becomes harder due to the numerous sludge pools trapping you. We highly recommend using Sidon’s ability to clear some of the sludge as you fight; otherwise, the entire battlefield will become unusable.

After removing the sludge shark, the Mucktorok tries to retreat toward the sludge pools it created. Try to land a few hits while it’s running if possible.

Once it reaches the sludge pools, it swims through them, making it hard for Link to pursue. That’s why we advised saving your Bow for this phase.

As it jumps between sludge pools, jump into the air and aim with your Bow to activate slow motion. While slowed, shoot the Mucktorok with one or two arrows. We found attaching Bomb Flowers to the arrows especially effective.

After being hit, the Mucktorok surfaces briefly and becomes vulnerable. As before, rush over and attack it as much as possible before the shark reappears.

Continue repeating these steps until the Mucktorok’s health drops to zero. Once done, you’ll have successfully defeated it!

After defeating the Mucktorok, return to Sidon to complete this part of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Congratulations!
